Your brand isn't AI-readable yet. Here's what that costs you.
Google just shipped a file format that turns your brand into something AI can actually use. Most teams are sleeping on it.
While everyone's still arguing about whether AI can write decent ad copy, the real
question is whether your brand is in a format AI can actually read. Most brands aren't.
Last week we fixed that for four of ours. About 4 hours each. The result: a single
markdown file per brand that now drives every ad, deck, landing page, and email
template we ship. Same file, different agents, same brand every time.
The format is called DESIGN.md. Google open-sourced it. 8,600 stars in 14 days.
Almost nobody in marketing is talking about it.
That's a mistake.
Every marketing team has lived this part: brand guide PDFs nobody reads, Slack threads
about whether the orange is right, freelancers reinterpreting your guidelines, junior
designers guessing.
DESIGN.md kills all of it.
Your colors, fonts, spacing, and brand rules all live in one file every AI agent can read. Including when to use the accent, what your brand should never do, all of it.
Every ad, deck, landing page, and email gets generated on-brand the first time, with no
revision rounds or interpretation drift.
Consistency at the speed of typing.
A human reads it in 5 minutes. An agent reads it and reproduces your brand in 30 seconds.
Why this matters now
Every major AI company is building a design layer right now. Figma has Make, Anthropic
shipped Claude Design, Adobe is bolting AI onto Creative Cloud. Each one wants your
brand inside their walls.
If your brand lives inside a vendor product, you pay them forever and rebuild every time you switch tools. Price hikes? You eat them.
DESIGN.md flips that bet. Plain text, open source, yours forever. Hand it to GPT-5,
Claude, Gemini, whatever model wins next year. None of them own your brand. You do.
What it unlocks
Top ad accounts ship 200+ creatives a month. Most teams ship 4. The bottleneck is brand
consistency at volume, and most teams hit a wall there.
Designers can't scale, freelancers reinterpret, and junior marketers guess.
DESIGN.md plus an agent breaks that ceiling. Brands that get this right are shipping
10x more creative at the same headcount.
Sales teams need decks per deal, not 15 templates a year. With a DESIGN.md plus an agent, an 8-slide custom deck takes 10 minutes instead of two weeks. Salesperson tweaks two slides and sends.
If you run an agency, this is the bigger story. Client onboarding becomes a markdown file you write once and version forever. When the client wants to take their brand in-house, you hand them a file. Clean handoff, no vendor lock, and they love you for it.
The math
4 hours per brand to write. 24 months of unlock: every ad variant, landing page hero,
deck per deal, case study layout, email template, social tile, all on-brand and all generated in minutes.
For a 5-person marketing team, the math comes out to roughly 4 hours of writing for the
equivalent output of two extra designers for two years. That's a 50x return on the
time investment, conservatively.
Where most teams get this wrong
They write the file but never connect it to the agents doing the work. Or they spin up
agents without a brand file underneath. The system needs both: brand file + agent fleet + your data.
Without all three, you don't get the multiplier.
Brands that get this right in 2026 will ship 10x more creative at the same headcount.
