You showed up in ChatGPT. Now what?

The New Rules of AI Search (Live Oct 21)

When someone asks Google or ChatGPT for a recommendation in your industry, does your business come up?

And when it does, is that visibility bringing you qualified traffic and leads?

A lot of companies come to Single Grain saying they're fine on SEO and only need help with AEO.

But that’s the wrong approach, and here’s why.

Where SEO stands

You can't do AEO without understanding SEO. Gemini and AI Overviews are grounded in Google, and other answer engines lean on Google because it has the richest data.

So you still need solid SEO, good statistics and good content, and links still matter.

What AEO changed

The LLMs have learned what Google has known for a long time. A "best agencies" list on your own site that ranks you number one is easy to spot, and I won't pretend we've never published one.

Other people need to link to you and cite you, because citations are the name of the game.

What we're doing about it

I built our AEO/SEO bot myself in Grok Bot. Before anyone writes, it tells me what to draft, update, delete or consolidate.

Then a classifier scores each draft, and anything that fails gets held.

If citations decide who shows up, a page that repeats one you already have works against you, so I'm fine with that.

An earlier version of this flow started getting clicks about 4 weeks after we published, and those clicks are starting to compound.

Showing up in an AI answer is nice, but I want to know who lands on the site, which pages they hit, and whether it turns into a free consultation.

Our measurement bot tracks consultations alongside indexing, impressions and clicks.

On Wednesday, October 21, I'm going live to walk through how I'd approach both.

I’m walking through an SEO and AEO workflow from beginning to end, so you can see how to choose what to improve, where AI can help, and what to measure afterward.

We’ll cover:

  • What still works in SEO and where AEO changes the approach

  • How to choose which content to improve first

  • Using AI for research, writing and content updates

  • Tracking visibility alongside qualified traffic and leads
