With AI, you can't "catch up later."
The AI gap is snapping shut. Here's what you need to do now.
When the internet showed up, most corporations took 5–10 years to really adopt it—email, websites, the whole thing.
Back then, the friction was physical. Dial-up. Spotty connections. Not everyone had a computer. You needed new behavior and new hardware.
AI is different.
Now the hardware is already in everyone’s hand. AI is just a software layer plugging into what you already use all day: your browser, your docs, your CRM, your phone.
That’s why the “I’ll catch up later” strategy is a trap.
Here’s the nuance: roles that are routine and cognitive can go from “safe” to “mostly automated” in 12–14 months. These workers will feel it fast.
At the same time, big companies do move slowly. Most “AI adoption” is not a full-stack redesign. Enterprise inertia is real, driven by compliance, integration, and change management.
So what should companies do in the meantime?
Focus on brand.

People love saying “humans aren’t the moat.”
They’re right—brand is the moat. Utility is easy to copy. Trust isn’t. AI makes execution cheaper, which makes distribution and brand even more valuable.
