Will AI replace your job?
Here's how to flip the script.
Most people are thinking about AI all wrong.
It’s not about whether AI will take your job. It’s about whether your job is “legible” to AI in the first place.
Legible jobs are clean and rule-based, with clear “correct and incorrect” answers. Think accounting, data entry, and even coding. For example, if you put “1+1” into a calculator, it will generate the correct answer, “2,” every time.
On the contrary, illegible jobs require judgment, experimentation, and intuition. Think brand building, strategy, or managing a team.
AI thrives on legible work. If your job fits that mold, it’s only a matter of time before you will be replaced.
So here’s how you stay relevant:
Become harder to define.
The more your work depends on insight, the more “illegible” you become—and the harder it is for AI to replace you.
Go deep.
Surface-level generalists are easy to swap. Depth = better judgment, better prompts, and better outputs. The deeper your expertise, the better the questions you can ask.
Study top performers.
Want to future-proof your career? Model what the best people in your field are doing differently, then fill the gap. Audit yourself. Be ruthless about your blind spots.
Make curiosity your edge.
Continue learning. Read more. Test more. Build relationships with those who have more expertise. Curiosity compounds, and AI can't replicate genuine human drive.
And if you are using AI, say so.
Own it. Show your work. AI isn’t a cheat code—it’s a skillset. Hiring managers want people who know how to think with AI, not fear it.
