How 'Nothing' Stories Can Make You RICH

Who knew that sharing your life stories could generate conversions?
I remember one time, I had a terrible airline experience — my flight was canceled and when I called support, their agent hung up on me.
I ended up sharing the entire story to my entire email list and that actually generated sales for my ad agency.
In email marketing, there’s a term for this — the Seinfeld email, coined by a marketer named Ben Settle.
Why Seinfeld? Because the sitcom Seinfeld talks about a whole lot of… nothing!
That means your life experiences, sometimes where ‘nothing’ happens can help you drive sales.
For example, I tied my airline horror story in with the importance of hiring great people for your customer service team. The product I was selling back then? A training program to help people hire better talent.
So that’s how Seinfeld emails work. Emails have been and will continue to be a viable marketing channel.
But what about applying it beyond email? How about where there's organic reach potential?
LinkedIn, X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Snap, TikTok - wherever you can get it.
For those of you who speak at live events or on webinars, these are simple storytelling elements that you can weave into your talks to make them more engaging.
The structure for Seinfeld emails is simple:
Write a great hook e.g. ‘The Airline Experience from Hell’
Write a great story e.g. flight got canceled and customer support left me hanging and it ruined an important day for me
Tie in your story with what you do e.g. this is why hiring great people is important
Add in a call to action e.g. if you want to learn more about how to hire A-player talent, click here
