How to fix your AEO

If you’re not optimizing for answer engines, you're invisible.

Search is no longer just Google: it’s ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and every other AI interface.
This shift demands a new playbook: Answer Engine Optimization (AEO).

In my latest video, I discuss how we’re driving serious ROI with AEO at Single Grain:

  • Listicles are gold. Get your brand listed in high-ranking “best of” articles. That’s how my podcast ranks #1 on ChatGPT. We’re running this strategy for clients now, and it works.

  • Citations matter. Reddit, Wikipedia, and YouTube are the most cited sources by LLMs. You need a presence on all three. That includes building a subreddit, producing YouTube content, and participating in discussions that matter.

  • BOFU > TOFU. 80% of our content strategy is now bottom of the funnel: "X vs Y", "Alternatives to", and transactional guides. These convert, and they get picked up by LLMs.

  • Use AI workflows. Our internal tool Clickflow saves us 90+ hours/month by creating, updating, and scaling SEO content, with humans in the loop.

  • Don’t skip the FAQs. These sections are often what AI engines surface. More FAQs = more shots on goal.

  • Track brand mentions. Use tools like Brand24 or Ahrefs Brand Monitoring to see how AI models reference you and optimize accordingly.
